Diablo Clone (Vision of Terror)

01Overview

In PD2, Diablo Clone is no longer summoned by selling Stones of Jordan. You build a Vision of Terror and fight him in his own arena, in a phased fight with skeleton waves and cold nova sequences. Every kill drops a guaranteed Annihilus.
He is the most farmed pinnacle boss: the ingredients are reachable for any character that runs maps and Uber Tristram, and many builds kill him comfortably on tier 0.

02Summoning

IngredientWhere it drops
Prime Evil SoulHell Diablo (about 1 in 21), Hell Baal (about 1 in 13) or Hell Mephisto
Black SoulstoneGuaranteed from Uber Tristram
Pure Demonic EssenceMap bosses
Cube the three into a Vision of Terror and use it at the Blood Fountain in Harrogath. Cube the Vision on its own to cycle its tier.
  • Tier 0: three re-entry portals in town. Each re-entry heals Diablo by 20%, but phases you already cleared do not repeat, and you are briefly invulnerable while you recover your body.
  • Tiers 1 and 2: no re-entry, but a 1 in 200 chance at one of five exclusive uniques. Since Season 13 tier 2 has the same drop chances as tier 1 and its minions are a little weaker than before.
  • On entry your pre-buffs are removed and your mercenary dies; summons come with you. You cannot leave until he is dead, except by save-and-exit or death.

03Mechanics

Diablo Clone is monster level 110 with about 30% resistance to every damage type, so no element is shut out. He cannot be chilled, Static Field does nothing to him or his skeletons, and curses barely last on him.
  • Stay close. He is immune whenever no player is within about 10 yards of him; the Salvation aura visual shows it. Ranged builds have to fight from short range.
  • Normal attacks: Firestorm (physical and fire), fire nova, a lightning hose (physical and lightning), cold melee hits, Meteors, and Bone Spirits that leave burning ground where they land.

The cold nova sequences

Before a sequence Diablo walks to the center of the arena with the Salvation visual. He then fires six cold novas, each one lowering your cold resistance further (the last at -175%). The novas are projectiles: hide behind a pillar until the sequence ends, and resync once you are behind it so your position is accurate. Season 14 made the tormented soul pillars untargetable and fixed projectiles slipping through them.

04What you need

  • 1,500-2,000 life as a starting point for tier 0.
  • 80% or more maximum fire resistance (85% to be comfortable), with fire resistance at that cap: Firestorm, fire nova, Meteors and burning ground are his main damage.
  • 25-30% physical damage reduction for the physical part of his hits.
  • Cannot Be Frozen is required.
  • A belt of full rejuvenation potions.
  • Damage that works while staying near him, and a plan for the skeleton waves (area damage or minions).

Builds that do it well

Diablo Clone is the friendliest pinnacle boss for summoners and trap builds, because minions and traps keep the skeletons busy. Easy tier 0 kills: Blade Sentinel Assassin, Wake of Fire Trapsin, Meteor Sorceress, Summon Amazon (Decoys) and Poison Nova Necromancer played with Desecrate. Also comfortable: Blizzard Sorceress and Summon Druid. Holy Bolt Paladin and Fire Druid manage with more care. On tier 2 the Blade Sentinel Assassin, Meteor and Blizzard Sorceress are the reliable choices.

06FAQ

Is tier 0 or tier 2 better to farm?
Every tier drops one Annihilus. Tier 0 is the safe farm because of its three re-entries. Tiers 1 and 2 add the 1 in 200 exclusive unique; tier 2 has the same chance as tier 1 and was made easier in Season 13, so a character that kills tier 2 safely gets the same Annihilus plus that chance.
Why does my damage stop working on him?
Either you are too far away (he is immune when no player is within about 10 yards) or he is in a skeleton wave or nova sequence, when he is immune until the phase ends. Static Field never works on him.
