Blizzard Sorceress — Cold Mastery
Open this build in the planner →
Overview
Blizzard is a delayed-trigger AoE cold spell; Cold Mastery reduces enemy cold resistance so Blizzard's damage actually lands. Static Field opens packs for a safer pull, and Teleport gives real positioning/kiting in Hardcore.
Stats
Energy funds mana for Blizzard spam; Vitality is the rest. This guide does not assert a strict ratio — gear-dependent (FCR/mana-per-kill affixes shift the real tradeoff).
Leveling
Ice Blast (via Ice Bolt) carries early levels well before Blizzard unlocks at level 24 (needs Frost Nova + Glacial Spike).
Gear
Prices come from the real market crawler. Live price lookup is only precise for runes, gems, and plain base items today — a specific named unique/set/runeword's price would be misleading from market data alone (see each item below for the honest reason when unsupported).
LOW
Confirmed real runeword (itype helm) — budget +skill/resist helm.
Price lookup is not precise for this item type yet -- the market data only identifies the base item type, not the specific unique/set/runeword/charm variant, so a price here would be misleading rather than just incomplete.
Cheap, iconic caster gloves (+skill, +FCR).

MID
Confirmed real runeword, eligible on sword/shield — classic budget-to-midgame caster combo.
Price lookup is not precise for this item type yet -- the market data only identifies the base item type, not the specific unique/set/runeword/charm variant, so a price here would be misleading rather than just incomplete.
+skill, +FCR belt.

HIGH
+skills, +all resistances.

Generic FHR/resist/str boots.

ENDGAME
Confirmed real runeword. Conventionally given to the mercenary (Conviction aura lowers monster resistance) rather than wielded by the Sorceress herself.
Price lookup is not precise for this item type yet -- the market data only identifies the base item type, not the specific unique/set/runeword/charm variant, so a price here would be misleading rather than just incomplete.
Teleport + +skills + life — confirmed real runeword, good on any class including casters.

Mercenary
An Act 2 Might or Holy Freeze mercenary is a common pairing for melee cleanup; some builds give the merc a lightning-damage weapon to cover Blizzard's cast delay. This guide does not assert one specific choice.
Charms
Life/resist/+skill small or grand charms are generic filler; no archetype-specific charm requirement beyond that.
Playstyle
Static Field to open a pack, Blizzard the cluster, kite with Teleport while it lands. Cast Blizzard ahead of incoming mobs, not on top of yourself.
Hardcore Notes
This guide does not assert an HC-viability score for this exact build — open the linked planner build, equip real gear, and read the honest, confidence-labeled HC-viability section there instead of trusting a number typed here.
Pros
- Strong, well-documented AoE clear archetype
- Teleport gives real Hardcore-relevant mobility
- Cold Mastery directly counters monster cold resistance, a real mechanical lever
Cons
- Blizzard's cast delay means it does not help against something already on top of you
- Energy Shield is real but deliberately skipped here due to its PD2-specific prerequisite cost
- Low innate physical damage reduction — resistances/life from gear matter a lot
