Meteor Sorceress (Fire) -- PD2 Season 14 Guide

01Overview

Season 14 rating

hiimpd2 S14 solo: Good; S14 starter list; bossing: Vision of Terror T0 Easy / T2 Easy
Meteor is a league-start and bossing build, not a top mapper. hiimpd2's Season 14 lists rate it as follows:
  • Solo mapping: Good. The team set this as a floor tier; no timed map clear is listed.
  • Starter list: tagged Chaos, Early Map, Key Farming and Uber Tristram.
  • Bossing: Easy at both T0 and T2 for Vision of Terror (Diablo Clone). Voidstone (Rathma) is Moderate at T2 and Shadow of Hatred (Lucion) is Hard at T2; neither is rated at T0.
  • Group (P8) list: Mid, with the note 'Meteor delay holds this build back'.
Odealo's pre-launch S14 tier list (last updated 2026-09-28) does not list Meteor, and Odealo has no PD2 Meteor guide. The community version followed here combines three sources: Hiim's two S14 Meteor planners (starter kit and 'Starter Gear'), CJS88's S14 endgame showcase planner (Brimstone Rain, a Corpse Explosion hybrid and an Act 5 merc with the Madness runeword), and philanthropy777's progression guide. Its 'Day 1' sorceress is Meteor, played at Andariel, Corrupted Zones, Uber Tristram and Diablo Clone. Meteor got a buff in S14: its burning ground now takes the Inferno synergy.

Summary

The Meteor Sorceress calls down meteors that crash after a short delay. Each impact deals equal physical and fire damage in a 6.66-yard radius and leaves burning ground that keeps damaging monsters for 1.6 seconds (PD2 wiki). Unlike vanilla, the PD2 Meteor is a hybrid: since Season 6, Fire Mastery and +% fire skill damage also scale its physical part. Three skills feed Meteor with +6% per hard point each: Fire Ball, Blaze and Inferno. Fire Mastery adds +96% fire damage and -20% enemy fire resistance at level 20.
Why play it in Season 14:
  • League start. It works with cheap gear. Hiim's starter kit is Spirit (Sword/Any Shield), Splendor, Lore, Smoke, Lenymo and a '+3 Fire Skills' amulet, with an Act 2 Insight merc. Our sorceress leveling guide (Inferno, then Leaf, then Meteor) ends exactly in that planner, so you never need a respec.
  • Bossing. Meteor's big hits, half of them physical, make it one of hiimpd2's two Easy/Easy sorceress builds for Diablo Clone (Hydra is the other). It also farms Uber Tristram and keys early (hiimpd2 starter tags, philanthropy777's Day 1-3 chapters).
  • S14 buff. The burning ground now takes its synergy from Inferno (which you max anyway) instead of Fire Wall (1 point).
Weak points: the impact delay makes mapping slower than instant-hit builds (hiimpd2 group list: 'Meteor delay holds this build back'), Meteor has a 0.52-second cooldown, and fire immunes need the physical half, Inferno or merc curses. The endgame version from CJS88's showcase planner keeps Meteor as the main skill. Brimstone Rain (75% FCR, +3 Meteor, an 18% chance to cast level 35 Meteor on casting) and Corpse Explosion from Corpsemourn turn it into a fire/physical hybrid.

What works

  • Strong from the first Hell days on cheap gear: Hiim's S14 starter planner uses only low-rune runewords and Lenymo
  • Easy/Easy for Diablo Clone on hiimpd2's S14 bossing list; also tagged for Uber Tristram and key farming
  • Half of Meteor's damage is physical, so fire-immune monsters still take damage
  • Inferno breaks fire immunity and lowers fire resistance (PD2 wiki); you max it anyway as a Meteor synergy
  • S14 buff: the burning ground now takes the Inferno synergy (about +33-49% ground damage, see FAQ)
  • Same skills from clvl 24 to endgame: the class leveling guide leads straight into it with no respec

What to plan around

  • Meteor falls after a delay and has a 0.52 s cooldown. hiimpd2 rates it only Good for solo mapping and Mid in groups
  • Fire immunes are the main weakness: without a physical boost, Inferno or merc curses they die slowly
  • Mana-hungry before Insight, FCR and Warmth
  • Lucion (Shadow of Hatred) is rated Hard at T2, and neither Lucion nor Rathma is rated at T0
  • The endgame staff Brimstone Rain is level 80 with item level 87 or higher, so it only drops in maps

Playstyle

Target the middle of a pack with Meteor, then fill the 0.52-second cooldown with another skill while the meteor falls. With the starter kit, the filler is Fire Ball or Inferno. In CJS88's endgame version, it is Corpse Explosion (from Corpsemourn) or Inferno, which also triggers Brimstone Rain's 'chance to cast level 35 Meteor on casting' ('Spam CE/Inferno in between Meteor cast (for more Meteor casts from staff procs)'). Lead moving monsters, because the impact is delayed. Teleport to the next pack.
Rotation
  • Cast Meteor slightly ahead of the pack's movement; the impact takes a moment
  • While Meteor is on cooldown, cast Fire Ball at stragglers (starter) or channel Inferno at monsters close to you. Inferno also lowers their fire resistance (-24% at skill level 20, PD2 wiki)
  • Endgame (CJS88): spam Corpse Explosion or Inferno between Meteors for extra Brimstone Rain procs
  • Let monsters walk through the burning ground; it lasts 1.6 seconds
  • Teleport to the next pack. Use Blaze for movement in tight spaces: in S14 it gives phasing (walk through monsters), up to 60% faster movement and Cannot Be Frozen while active
Positioning: Meteor reaches screen range, so you don't have to stand in packs. Inferno is a short cone (about 20 yards at level 20), so only use it on monsters that are already close. Your Act 2 merc tanks in front. Use Blaze's phasing to walk out of surrounds.
Bossing: Meteor is at its best against bosses. Hiim rates it Easy at T0 and T2 for Vision of Terror (Diablo Clone). Diablo Clone has 30% fire and physical resistance and 8% fire absorb (hiimpd2 boss guide), so the physical half of Meteor and Inferno's resistance reduction both help. Stay within about 10 yards of him, or he stops taking damage. Your merc does not enter the arena, so bring your own life and defenses. Voidstone (Rathma) is Moderate at T2. Shadow of Hatred (Lucion) is Hard at T2. Neither is rated at T0. philanthropy777's guide has a dedicated 'Day 1-3 Meteor Dclone' chapter and an Uber Tristram chapter.
Mapping: Good, not Top. Meteor's delay costs time between packs. Pick maps without fire immunes where you can. The three new S14 maps (The Poisoned Well T1, The Descent from Mount Arreat T2, The Fortress of Aranoch T2) have no immunities in their first season. Kyovoshad now has fire immunes (S14 patch notes). Hiim tags the starter build for early maps, Chaos Sanctuary and key farming. Once you have Brimstone Rain, its Meteor procs and Corpse Explosion make the CJS88 version clear much faster.

02Skills

Level 30 · 33 skill points

  • Inferno 14
  • Meteor 7
  • Fire Ball 6
  • Blaze 1
  • Fire Bolt 1
  • Fire Wall 1
  • Telekinesis 1
  • Teleport 1
  • Warmth 1

Skill order

  • Inferno from clvl 1, 1 point each in Fire Bolt and Warmth; Blaze at 6 (class leveling guide, JuxtAPoser)
  • Fire Ball at 12, Fire Wall 1, Telekinesis 1 and Teleport 1 by 18
  • Meteor at clvl 24, then max Meteor
  • Max Inferno and Fire Ball (Meteor synergies)
  • Max Fire Mastery (Hiim's base planner). Alternative: max Blaze first (Hiim's 'Starter Gear' planner)
  • Max Blaze (CJS88 endgame)
  • 1 point each: Static Field (Hiim base) or Cold Enchant + Shiver Armor (CJS88)

Synergies

Per the S14 Skills.txt and the PD2 wiki:
  • Meteor: +6% damage per hard point in Fire Ball, Blaze and Inferno, up to +360% with all three maxed. It applies to the impact fire damage, the impact physical damage and (since the S14 fix) the burning ground. Fire Mastery's +% then multiplies the physical part as well.
  • Fire Mastery: +20% fire damage at level 1 and +4% per level (+96% at 20), plus 1% enemy fire resistance pierce per level. The pierce does not break fire immunity.
  • Inferno: maxed as a Meteor synergy, and also a useful skill. It lowers enemy fire resistance while it hits (-24% at level 20) and the wiki says it can break fire immunity. Its own synergies are Blaze and Fire Wall (+20% each).
  • Fire Ball: maxed as a Meteor synergy and your early ranged filler. It gets +15% per level from Fire Bolt.
  • Blaze: the third Meteor synergy. Hiim's 'Starter Gear' planner maxes it before Fire Mastery, and CJS88's endgame maxes it as well. S14 gave it phasing, more speed and Cannot Be Frozen.
  • Prerequisites (1 point each): Fire Bolt (Fire Ball), Blaze and Fire Wall (Meteor), Telekinesis (Teleport).
  • Utility (1 point each): Teleport. Warmth is passive mana regeneration (+30% at level 1, +12% per level). Hiim's base planner also puts 1 point in Static Field, which only takes 8% of current life since S14. CJS88 adds Cold Enchant 1 and Shiver Armor 1.

About these skill plans

  • Leveling (level 30): 33 points = 29 from levels + 4 Normal quest points. This follows the class leveling guide: Inferno carries you through Normal with a Leaf staff (clvl 19), Meteor starts at 24 and gets every point after that. Nightmare Den of Evil and Radament points also go into Meteor.
  • Early endgame (Hiim's starter planner) (level 76): 87 points = 75 + 12 quest points, copied from Hiim's S14 'Meteor' base planner (clvl 76). Hiim's 'Starter Gear' planner (clvl 80, 91 points) takes a different order: Blaze 20 before Fire Mastery (7 points), and no Warmth or Static Field. Both orders max the same four skills in the end.
  • Endgame (CJS88's showcase planner) (level 96): 107 points = 95 + 12, copied from CJS88's S14 'Meteor/CE+Madness' planner (clvl 96). All five fire skills are maxed (Meteor, Fire Mastery and its three synergies). Cold Enchant 1 is the prerequisite for Shiver Armor 1, a defense buff. If you came from Hiim's starter and don't want to respec, keep the Static Field point instead of Shiver Armor.

Dealing with immunities

Fire immunes are Meteor's weak spot. The community answer from the sources is to lean on the physical half and on resistance reduction. No Meteor source uses Infinity (Polearm/Spear), which is a lightning answer.
  • Physical half: Meteor's impact deals equal physical and fire damage, and Fire Mastery and +% fire also scale the physical part (PD2 wiki). Fire immunes still take the physical half. CJS88 calls his build a 'Fire/Phys Hybrid': Brimstone Rain adds -10% enemy physical resistance, and Corpse Explosion adds more hybrid damage.
  • Inferno: lowers enemy fire resistance while it hits (-24% at level 20) and, per the wiki, can break fire immunity. Fire Mastery's pierce does not break immunity. In PD2, resistance reduction works at 1/2 effectiveness on immune monsters.
  • Merc curses: Hiim's 'Starter Gear' merc carries The Reaper's Toll (Amplify Damage proc, more physical damage). CJS88's Act 5 merc carries the Madness runeword (Lower Resist and Amplify Damage procs). S14 did not change item curse procs.
  • Lower Resist wand: JuxtAPoser's 'Sorceress Zero 2 Hero' has an 'LR Wand' chapter in its Hell section (see unverified).
  • Map choice: the three new S14 maps have no immunities in their first season. Kyovoshad gained fire immunes in S14.

03Stats

Strength for gear, a little Energy early (Hiim's starters), and the rest into Vitality. The endgame version is pure Vitality.
AttributeRecommendation
StrengthEnough for your gear. Hiim's base planner uses 93 strength at clvl 76 and his 'Starter Gear' planner uses 60. CJS88's endgame uses 103, enough for Corpsemourn (Ornate Plate, 145 strength after its -15% requirements per the wiki) with gear strength.
DexterityNone in any of the three planners.
VitalityEverything else. Hiim: 212 (clvl 76) and 295 (clvl 80); CJS88: 387 at clvl 96. Diablo Clone wants 1,500-2,000 life (hiimpd2 boss guide).
EnergyHiim's starter planners put some points into Energy for mana while leveling: 85 at clvl 76 and 55 at clvl 80. CJS88's endgame has 0 Energy and relies on Brimstone Rain, Silkweave mana after kill and Warmth.

04Leveling

Leveling plan

Follow the class leveling guide (leveling/sorceress.json): its main route is exactly this build. Inferno carries Act 1-3 Normal and a Leaf staff takes over at clvl 19 (JuxtAPoser's 'Sorceress Zero 2 Hero': Inferno, Leaf, Meteor; Odealo recommends Leaf for fire sorceresses). Meteor starts at clvl 24 and gets every point after that. You reach Hiim's S14 starter planner (Inferno, Fire Ball, Meteor and Fire Mastery at 20) at clvl 76 without a respec. Build-specific steps below: the transition into Hiim's kit, and the clvl 76-96 points toward CJS88's endgame.
Switching to your main skill: Meteor at clvl 24 (requires Fire Ball and Fire Wall). Until then, Inferno with Leaf.
Respec: Not needed. The leveling route ends exactly in Hiim's starter planner. Optional at endgame: Akara's free respec (once per difficulty) or a Token of Absolution to swap the Static Field point for Shiver Armor (CJS88), or to follow Hiim's 'Starter Gear' order (Blaze before Fire Mastery). If you plan to leave Meteor for a cold or lightning endgame (JuxtAPoser respecs into Blizzard after Hell), respec once your gear is ready.

    Tips

  3. Level 24–40Nightmare

Nightmare Act 1 to Act 3

Meteor becomes your main skill. Make the hiimpd2 starter kit: Spirit (Sword/Any Shield) Crystal Sword at 25, Lore at 27, Splendor at 37, Insight for the merc. Nightmare Countess is the rune farm for all of these.
    Skill points

    • Radament's Lair (Nightmare) (Act 2, must do): +1 skill point
    • Lam Esen's Tome (Nightmare) (Act 3, must do): +5 stat points

    Tips

    • Meteor has a delay: cast it where monsters will be, then follow up with Fire Ball.
    • Fire immunes appear in Nightmare; let the merc handle them or teleport past.
    • Mistake: Keeping Leaf once Spirit (Sword/Any Shield) + Lore are ready.
  4. Level 40–60Nightmare

Nightmare Act 4 to Hell Act 2

Finish Meteor, Inferno and Fire Ball, add one point each in Fire Mastery and Static Field. Splendor and Smoke complete the starter kit for Hell entry.

    • Level 60: Fire Mastery +1

    Stats

Strength to 93, Energy 85 total, rest Vitality.

    Mercenary

Act 2 Defensive (Defiance): Same merc with Insight; the hiimpd2 starters also put a spare Lenymo on him.

    Where to farm

    • Hell Andariel / Corrupted Zones: philanthropy777's Day 1 Meteor farms Andariel and Corrupted Zones right after Hell Baal; hiimpd2 tags the Meteor starter for Chaos, early maps, key farming and Uber Tristram. Drops: Uniques, sets, Worldstone Shards.

    Quests

    • The Fallen Angel (Izual, Nightmare) (Act 4, must do): +2 skill points
    • Prison of Ice (Anya, Nightmare) (Act 5, must do): +10 all res
    • Den of Evil (Hell) (Act 1, must do): +1 skill point
    • Radament's Lair (Hell) (Act 2, must do): +1 skill point

    Tips

    • Corrupted Zones rotate every 15 minutes at monster level 85 and give +50% Worldstone Shards in S14.
    • Mistake: Entering Hell with negative resistances (Hell penalty -100%).
  5. Level 60–75Hell

Hell to Baal, then maps at 80

Max Fire Mastery. Kill the Hell Ancients and Baal; Hell Anya gives +10 all res and 3 tier-1 maps in PD2. Maps open at level 80. This is the planned point for a respec into your endgame build if you do not want to stay Meteor (JuxtAPoser respecs into Blizzard after Hell).
    Skill points
    1. +17Fire Mastery

    Gear

    • WeaponMemory+4 all skills, 33% FCR in PD2; the weapon in hiimpd2's S14 Meteor solo planner. How to get: Lum Rune, Io Rune, Sol Rune, Eth Rune; 4-socket staff.
    • ArmorSkin of the Vipermagi+1 all skills, 30% FCR, all res; hiimpd2's Meteor solo planner. How to get: Drop/trade.
    • GlovesMagefist20% FCR, +1 Fire Skills; hiimpd2's Meteor solo planner. How to get: Drop/trade.
    • Mercenary WeaponInfinity (Polearm/Spear)Conviction aura lowers fire/cold/lightning resistance and can break immunities (at half effectiveness vs immunes in PD2).

    Skills

    • Level 61-74: Fire Mastery +14
    • Level Hell Izual (2 points): Fire Mastery +2
    • Level 75: Fire Mastery +1 -- Fire Mastery 19; it reaches 20 at 76 as in the hiimpd2 starter.

    Stats

    Rest Vitality.

    Mercenary

Act 2 Defensive (Defiance): Keep him. Infinity (Polearm/Spear) is a common long-term merc weapon for Sorceress endgames (not taken from the cited planners: hiimpd2's S14 Meteor solo planner gives the merc The Reaper's Toll).

    Where to farm

    • Chaos Sanctuary, early maps, Uber Tristram: The hiimpd2 Meteor starter tags. Drops: Uniques, keys, map drops.

    Quests

    • The Fallen Angel (Izual, Hell) (Act 4, must do): +2 skill points
    • Prison of Ice (Anya, Hell) (Act 5, must do): +10 all res and 3 tier-1 maps (PD2)
    • Rite of Passage (Ancients, Hell) (Act 5, must do): Required for maps

    Tips

    • Respec with the Hell Akara or a Token of Absolution only once your endgame gear is ready.
    • Mistake: Respeccing into a skill-hungry endgame build without +skills gear.

Rune shopping list

Alternative leveling builds

  • Fire Bolt -> Fire Ball, respec around level 35: Thanock's PD2 guide levels with Fire Ball and does a full respec into Blizzard around level 35, using an Insight merc and Spirit (Sword/Any Shield). Kordesh's older S5 guide starts the same way (Fire Bolt 2-10, Warmth at 11, Telekinesis 17, Teleport 18). Pick this if you want a cold or lightning endgame and are fine with one Akara respec in Nightmare.
  • Pure cold: Ice Bolt -> Ice Blast -> Blizzard: Pxned's S14 hiimpd2 planner 'Blizzard sorc (1 to Hell Baal 8-man speedrun)' levels as cold from level 1: Ice Bolt, Ice Blast and Blizzard to 20 by level 60, Lore, Stealth, Ancients' Pledge and crafted caster gear. Pick this if your endgame is Blizzard and you want no respec (see the Blizzard build guide).
  • hiimpd2 S14 starters: Chain Lightning, Ice Barrage, Firewall: hiimpd2's S14 starter list has four Sorceress starters with the same gear kit (Spirit (Sword/Any Shield), Splendor, Lore, Smoke/Rite of Passage, Lenymo, Insight Defiance merc). Ice Barrage is tagged for Chaos, early maps and key farming; Chain Lightning for the Arcane Sanctuary; Firewall for Andariel. Pick these if you want a different element than fire for the first Hell runs.

Respecs

Common leveling mistakes

  • Putting more than one point into Fire Bolt, Warmth, Blaze, Fire Wall, Telekinesis or Teleport on this route.
  • Counting on Static Field for bosses: S14 cut it to 8% current life (item procs are capped at range 16).
  • Taking Energy Shield early: in PD2 it needs Teleport and Chain Lightning first.
  • Socketing runes in the wrong order.
  • Ignoring resistances before Nightmare and Hell.

What is different in PD2

  • S14 Sorceress: +3 mana per level (was 2), +1.25 life per level (was 1).
  • New PD2 skills: Lesser Hydra, Combustion, Ice Barrage.
  • Energy Shield requires Teleport and Chain Lightning.
  • Static Field: 8% current life (was 25%), proc range max 16.
  • Blaze now grants phasing (walk through enemies) during its duration, and its run-speed bonus is 25% +1% per level (cap 60%).
  • Meteor's burning ground now takes its synergy from Inferno (S14 fix).
  • Frozen Orb uses the slow FCR table (0/7/15/23/35/52/78/117/194).
  • Mercs get full XP credit from your kills in S14; Act 2 auras are Defiance, Blessed Aim and Thorns.
  • Spirit (Sword/Any Shield) has a staff version (+2 all skills); Neophyte (Thul Rune + Tir Rune) is a PD2 caster runeword.

Charms

Hiim's starter planners carry no charms. CJS88's endgame inventory is Annihilus, Hellfire Torch and Gheed's Fortune. It adds eight '+1 Fire Skills' grand charms with life, one large charm with FCR and FHR, and small charms with life plus poison, cold or all resistance.
  • Grand charms: +1 Fire Skills ('Burning', required level 42) with life ('of Vita' up to 45 life): eight in CJS88's planner
  • Large charms: Faster Cast Rate + FHR: 'Mystic' (5-6% FCR) or 'Arcane' (3-4% FCR) with 'of Balance' (8% FHR). CJS88 has one
  • Small charms: Life + poison resistance ('Emerald Small Charm of Vita', up to 11% poison res + 20 life): most of CJS88's small charms; Life + cold resistance ('Sapphire ... of Vita') or all resistances ('Shimmering ... of Vita')
  • Annihilus: +1 all skills, Vitality, Energy, resistances and experience (S14 data; Diablo Clone drop). CJS88.
  • Hellfire Torch: Uber Tristram drop with random class skills (keep a Sorceress torch), Vitality, Energy and resistances (S14 data). CJS88.
  • Gheed's Fortune: Magic find and gold find; CJS88 keeps one for farming.

Socket fillers

  • weapon/helm/armor (Brimstone Rain, rare Diadem, Corpsemourn after socket corruptions): Rainbow Facet -- CJS88 fills all 9 sockets with fire Rainbow Facets: each gives +3-5% fire skill damage and -3-5% enemy fire resistance, plus adds fire damage (S14 data). The Death version casts Meteor when you die, the Level-Up version casts Blaze; the damage stats are the same.
  • any socket without a facet: Jewel with +% fire damage (+2-5% fire skill damage (new S14 jewel prefix)) -- New S14 jewel prefix: a cheap filler before you have facets (S14 patch notes). Not from a Meteor planner.

06Mercenary

Which mercenary

Act 2 -- Defensive (Defiance)
Aura: Defiance. Insight on his weapon adds Meditation
Both of Hiim's S14 Meteor planners use an Act 2 Defiance Desert Guard. In PD2, Act 2 mercs only come with Defiance, Blessed Aim or Thorns (PD2 wiki). The starter planner gives him Insight (Meditation 12-17) for your mana. The 'Starter Gear' planner switches him to The Reaper's Toll, whose Amplify Damage proc lowers physical resistance and so boosts Meteor's physical half. The trade-off is that you lose Meditation.
Alternatives
  • Act 5 Warcries (Battle Orders / Battle Cry): CJS88's endgame planner uses an Act 5 Battle Orders merc with Madness (Sur Rune + Mal Rune + Vex Rune + Shael Rune) in an ethereal Thunder Maul. The Madness runeword procs Lower Resist and Amplify Damage on hit (S14 data). Lower Resist helps the fire half and breaks immunities at reduced effect; Amplify Damage helps the physical half. Per the patch notes, S14 changed the base values of these curses but not item procs. His armor is the Gloom runeword (+1 maximum curses in S14). The rest is Raekor's Virtue, Dracul's Grasp, String of Ears and War Traveler. Act 5 mercs can use swords, axes and maces except clubs, and barbarian helms (PD2 wiki).

    • AlternativeInsightHiim's base planner. Needs a 4-socket War Pike (max 6).
  • Mercenary BeltLenymoHiim's base planner also gives the merc a Lenymo (all resistances, mana regeneration). How to get: Random drop (Sash, L7).
  • Mercenary HelmRare HelmFilled as a standard pick (Hiim's starter planner leaves this slot empty): resistances and life leech. How to get: Drops/vendors; any 2 resistances and leech. Standard pick: no cited source names an item for this slot at this stage -- a common, stage-appropriate choice.

07Breakpoints

StatBreakpointsAim forNotes
FCR (cast rate)0920376310520063% starter, 105% mid, 200% endgame (CJS88)Sorceress (normal table; Meteor, Fire Ball, Inferno and Teleport all use it). Hiim's starter kit: Spirit (Sword/Any Shield) 25-35 + Splendor 20-35 + Lenymo 10 = 55-80%, which reaches 63% with decent rolls. Hiim's 'Starter Gear': Memory 33 + Skin of the Vipermagi 30 + Magefist 20 + amulet 10 = 93% (63% breakpoint); a 20% FCR circlet would reach 105%. CJS88: Brimstone Rain 75 + Diadem 20 + Magefist 30 + Arachnid Mesh 20 + Constricting Loop 30 + Brilliant ring 20 = 195%, plus the FCR large charm = about 200%. Meteor's 0.52-second cooldown limits how often you can cast Meteor itself, but faster casting makes filler casts (and Brimstone Rain procs) more frequent.
FHR (hit recovery)05914203042608614228042% while leveling; as high as you can for Diablo CloneSorceress. Hiim's starter kit gets 45% FHR from Spirit (Sword/Any Shield) (25) + Smoke (20), which is the 42% breakpoint. The 'Starter Gear' and CJS88 sets have almost no FHR (CJS88: 8% from the large charm). The hiimpd2 boss guide recommends 'a good faster hit recovery breakpoint' for Diablo Clone, so swap in FHR charms for that fight.
FRW (run/walk)—Teleport is your main movement. Blaze (S14): 25% + 1% per level faster movement up to 60%, plus phasing while active. Silkweave and the rare 30% FRW boots add more.

08Tips & Tricks

Tips

  • Follow the class leveling guide: Inferno -> Leaf (clvl 19) -> Meteor (24) reaches Hiim's starter planner with no respec.
  • Max Inferno even after Meteor takes over. It is a Meteor synergy, and since S14 it also feeds the burning ground.
  • Lead your Meteors: the impact is delayed, so aim where moving monsters will be, not where they are.
  • Fill Meteor's 0.52-second cooldown with Fire Ball, Inferno or (endgame) Corpse Explosion instead of waiting.
  • With Brimstone Rain, every cast can proc a level 35 Meteor (18%), so cheap filler casts mean free Meteors (CJS88).
  • Use Inferno on fire immunes at close range: -24% fire resistance at level 20, and it can break fire immunity (wiki).
  • Give your Act 2 merc Insight early. Switch to The Reaper's Toll (Amplify Damage) only when your own mana is solved (Hiim's 'Starter Gear').
  • Get a Volcanic (+3 Fire Skills) amulet and circlet. They raise Meteor, Fire Mastery and all three synergies at once.
  • Use Blaze to move in S14: phasing through monsters, up to 60% speed and Cannot Be Frozen while active.
  • For Diablo Clone: 1,500-2,000 life, 25-30% physical damage reduction, at least 80% max fire resistance, Cannot Be Frozen, and a pillar to hide behind during the nova waves (hiimpd2 boss guide). Your merc does not enter.
  • Corrupt the endgame pieces for sockets and fill them with fire Rainbow Facets (CJS88 runs 9).

Where to farm

  • Chaos Sanctuary (Hell): hiimpd2 starter tag. Diablo also drops the Prime Evil Soul needed for Vision of Terror.
  • Andariel and Corrupted Zones (Hell): philanthropy777's 'Sorc Day 1 (Meteor Andi/Corrupted Zones)' chapter. Corrupted Zones raise monster level to 85 and give +50% Worldstone Shards in S14.
  • Key farming: Countess, Summoner, Nihlathak (Hell): hiimpd2 starter tag 'Key Farming'. In PD2, Blood Raven, Bloodwitch and Izual in Hell also drop uber keys. Hiim's 'Starter Gear' wears two Nagelrings for magic find.
  • Uber Tristram: hiimpd2 starter tag and philanthropy777's 'Day 1-3 Meteor Uber Tristram' chapter. Drops Hellfire Torch and the Black Soulstone for Diablo Clone.
  • Diablo Clone (Vision of Terror, T0): Easy/Easy on hiimpd2's S14 bossing list; Annihilus drop. philanthropy777 has a 'Day 1-3 Meteor Dclone' chapter.
  • Early maps without fire immunes: hiimpd2 tag 'Early Map'. The new S14 maps (The Poisoned Well, The Descent from Mount Arreat, The Fortress of Aranoch) have no immunities this season. Brimstone Rain only drops from item level 87, so it comes from maps.

Hardcore

No Meteor-specific hardcore source was found. General notes: Meteor is ranged and lets your merc tank, which suits hardcore. Use Hiim's starter kit for safety: Smoke (30-50% resistances, 20% FHR) and Spirit (Sword/Any Shield) give 45% FHR, and Vitality goes into every spare point. In Diablo Clone your merc does not come with you, and the hiimpd2 boss guide names the cold nova waves and the fire corner as the main killers. Practice T0 in single player first, as that guide suggests. Avoid fire-immune-heavy maps and maps with extra elemental damage or reduced player resistance modifiers.

09FAQ

About this build

Is Meteor good in Season 14?
Yes, for league start and bossing. hiimpd2's S14 lists rate it as follows:
  • Solo mapping: Good.
  • Starter list: tagged Chaos, Early Map, Key Farming and Uber Tristram.
  • Diablo Clone: Easy at T0 and T2.
  • Group: Mid ('Meteor delay holds this build back').
For the fastest map clears, most players later respec or reroll. For a cheap start that can farm ubers early, it is one of the best sorceress options.
Does the class leveling guide fit this build?
Yes. leveling/sorceress.json's main route (Inferno -> Leaf -> Meteor, JuxtAPoser + Hiim) ends exactly in Hiim's S14 Meteor starter planner. No respec is needed, and the skill points in this guide's leveling steps are the same.
Max Fire Mastery or Blaze first after the core skills?
Both orders exist. Hiim's base planner maxes Fire Mastery at clvl 76 with 1 point in Blaze. His 'Starter Gear' planner maxes Blaze first and has 7 points in Fire Mastery at clvl 80. CJS88's endgame maxes both. Blaze adds +6% per point to Meteor and gives better movement. Fire Mastery adds +4% per level to all fire skills, multiplies the physical half too, and adds 1% fire pierce per level.
How do I deal with fire immunes?
Meteor's physical half still hits them. Inferno lowers fire resistance and can break immunity (wiki). Merc curse procs help as well: Amplify Damage from The Reaper's Toll, and Lower Resist plus Amplify Damage from the Madness runeword. For mapping, prefer maps without fire immunes. Infinity (Polearm/Spear) is not part of any Meteor source (it is a lightning item).
Which mercenary should I use?
An Act 2 Defiance Desert Guard (both Hiim planners): Insight early for Meditation, The Reaper's Toll later for Amplify Damage. CJS88's endgame uses an Act 5 Battle Orders merc with the Madness and Gloom runewords. Remember that the merc does not enter Diablo Clone.
What FCR do I need?
Sorceress table: 0/9/20/37/63/105/200. Hiim's starter kit sits around 63%, the 'Starter Gear' at 93% (63% breakpoint), and CJS88's endgame at 200% (Brimstone Rain alone gives 75%). Meteor has its own 0.52-second cooldown, so FCR mostly speeds up your filler casts and Brimstone Rain procs.
What is Brimstone Rain and where does it drop?
A unique Shillelagh: clvl 80, +3-4 all skills, 75% FCR, +3 Meteor, +3 Fire Mastery, 18% chance to cast level 35 Meteor on casting, -10% enemy physical resistance, fire resistance and life (PD2 wiki). Its minimum item level is 87, so it drops in maps (T1 maps are area level 87).
What is 'CE' in CJS88's build?
Corpse Explosion, the oskill on Corpsemourn (+30-40 to Corpse Explosion in PD2). CJS88 casts it (or Inferno) between Meteors to trigger more Brimstone Rain Meteor procs, and calls the build a 'Fire/Phys Hybrid'.
How do I prepare for Diablo Clone with Meteor?
Meteor is Easy at T0 on hiimpd2's list. The hiimpd2 boss guide's checklist: 1,500-2,000 life, a good FHR breakpoint, 25-30% physical damage reduction, at least 80% max fire resistance, Cannot Be Frozen, and capped other resistances. Stay within about 10 yards of him, or he takes no damage. Hide behind a pillar during nova waves. Your merc stays outside. Diablo Clone has 30% fire and physical resistance and 8% fire absorb, so your hybrid damage works well.
Can Meteor do Rathma and Lucion?
hiimpd2 rates Meteor Moderate for Voidstone (Rathma) at T2 and Hard for Shadow of Hatred (Lucion) at T2. Neither has a T0 rating. Diablo Clone is the build's best uber.
Why does Hiim's 'Starter Gear' use two Nagelrings?
The planner shows two Nagelrings (magic find, attack rating) but gives no reason. It fits the build's starter tags (key farming, Chaos). Swap to FCR/resistance rings if you need them.
Do I need a respec?
No. Optional: move the Static Field point into Shiver Armor (CJS88), or respec into another endgame build later with Akara or a Token of Absolution.

Leveling questions

Why Inferno/Meteor and not Fire Ball?
Both are community routes. Inferno -> Meteor (JuxtAPoser) ends in hiimpd2's S14 Meteor starter without a respec. Fire Ball leveling (Thanock) is just as fast in Normal but usually means a respec around 35.
When should I get Teleport?
At 18, one point.
Which merc while leveling?
Any Act 1 Rogue until Act 2, then an Act 2 Defiance Desert Guard with Insight; that is the merc in every hiimpd2 S14 Sorceress starter.
Do I need Energy Shield while leveling?
No. It needs Teleport and Chain Lightning first in PD2, and the hiimpd2 Meteor starter does not take it.
How do I deal with fire immunes?
Let the Insight/Infinity (Polearm/Spear) merc kill them or teleport past. Infinity's Conviction can break immunities (at half effectiveness against immune monsters).
What is the starter gear kit?
hiimpd2 S14 starters: Spirit (Sword/Any Shield) (Crystal Sword), Splendor (Bone Shield), Lore, Smoke, Lenymo, a +skills amulet and an Insight merc.
When do I respec?
Only when your endgame gear is ready. Akara is free once per difficulty; Thanock respecs at ~35, JuxtAPoser after Hell.
Where do maps start?
At level 80 after killing the Hell Ancients; Hell Anya gives your first 3 tier-1 maps.

General PD2 questions

What are the most important differences between PD2 and vanilla Diablo 2?
PD2 keeps the Lord of Destruction core but rebalances almost everything. The changes that matter most for a new player:
  • Drop rate: a solo game drops roughly like vanilla /players 5 and scales up to slightly above /players 8 in a full game, so solo self-found is far more rewarding.
  • Storage: a 10x15 stash, a 4x4 cube, a 10x8 inventory (charms still only work in the 10x4 area) and stackable gems, runes, essences and uber keys/organs. Season 14 reworked the stash further (see the Season 14 question).
  • Loot filter built into the client.
  • Many Hell zones raised to area level 85, plus endgame maps (area level 87-92).
  • Mercenaries from every act give an aura or utility skill and can wear helm, armor, gloves, boots and belt.
  • Items: every unique, set and runeword was reviewed, so many have PD2-specific stats; check the S14 values instead of vanilla numbers. Season 14 added Madness, Finesse, Deception and Jealousy.
  • New systems: Worldstone Shard corruption, crafting with any base, map orbs, and new uber bosses (Diablo Clone via Vision of Terror, Rathma, Lucion, Uber Ancients).
  • Maximum resistances cap at 90% instead of 95%.
What is new in Season 14 "Alliance"?
Season 14 started on October 23rd 2026. The headline changes:
  • Guilds: up to 500 members, a Guild Hall game, a shared Guild Vault with rank-locked tabs, a trophy case and guild chat. The old clan system is retired.
  • Stash rework: the cube now sits directly on the stash page. There are new tabs for maps, uniques and sets (one copy of each item, with the "Discovery" holy-grail tracker) and separate Gems/Runes/Ubers/Misc materials tabs. Personal gold is gone and the shared gold cap is now 25 million. Stackables no longer have separate stacked and unstacked versions, and keys are no longer needed for stack recipes such as rune upgrades.
  • Mercenaries get full experience from your kills and no longer suffer level-difference penalties.
  • Items: many armor bases went from 2 to 3 max sockets (Splint Mail, Plate Mail, Field Plate, Ghost Armor, Serpentskin Armor, Demonhide Armor, Trellised Armor, Tigulated Mail, Mesh Armor, Cuirass, Russet Armor, Templar Coat, plus the Armet helm and Giant Conch). Dropped rares can roll +2 class skills on chest, helm and shield.
  • New runewords, three new maps, 50% more Worldstone Shards in corrupted zones, and Resistance shrines now give +10% max resist.
How do I respec: Akara or a Token of Absolution?
Akara: after you finish Den of Evil, Akara offers one free full respec (skills and stats) per difficulty. Use the Normal one right after switching from your leveling build. Respeccing early is fine because you get more chances later.
Token of Absolution: cube one of each of the four essences:
In PD2 the essences drop in Nightmare and Hell at the same rates, and they stack in the materials tab. Right-click the token to reset all skill and stat points. Tokens are also easy to buy from other players, so a respec is rarely a big deal. Experiment with builds freely.
Which mercenary should I hire?
PD2 reworked every merc. They have the same stats whichever difficulty you hire them in, and they all wear helm, armor, gloves, boots and belt. The PD2 merc table:
  • Act 1 Rogue: Fire (Vigor aura), Cold (Meditation), Physical (Slow Movement). Bows and crossbows.
  • Act 2 Desert Guard: Defensive (Defiance), Offensive (Blessed Aim), Combat (Thorns). Polearms, spears and javelins; one-handed weapons do double damage. There is no Might, Prayer or Holy Freeze Act 2 merc in PD2.
  • Act 3 Iron Wolf: Fire (Cleansing), Cold (Prayer), Lightning (Holy Shock plus Static Field, which Season 14 reduced to 8% life).
  • Act 4 Ascendant (new): Dark (casts Amplify Damage), Light (Sanctuary). Staves.
  • Act 5 Barbarian: Combat (Might), Warcries (Battle Orders plus Battle Cry).
The usual default is an Act 2 Defiance merc in Insight (mana, and survives well). Physical builds love Might or Battle Orders, and casters often like Act 3 Cold for Prayer. Season 14 mercs get full XP from your kills, so they keep up easily.
What are breakpoints and which ones matter?
Diablo 2 animations run in whole frames, so Faster Cast Rate (FCR), Faster Hit Recovery (FHR), Faster Block Rate and Increased Attack Speed only help once you reach the next threshold. Anything between thresholds is wasted. PD2 uses the vanilla FCR tables, for example:
  • Sorceress FCR: 0/9/20/37/63/105/200. Frozen Orb and Chain Lightning use a slower table, 0/7/15/23/35/52/78/117/194.
  • Paladin and Necromancer FCR: 0/9/18/30/48/75/125.
For most casters, 105% (Sorceress) or 75% (Paladin and Necromancer) is the main target. Get one or two FHR breakpoints for survival, such as 42-60% on a Sorceress. PD2 attack mechanics differ from vanilla: Whirlwind ignores IAS and hits at fixed intervals, Berserk uses Frenzy breakpoints, and item IAS has diminishing returns. Use the PD2 wiki breakpoint tables or an S14-aware planner for your class and weapon. Check a breakpoint before paying a lot for 5% more FCR.
Where do I get Stealth early, and how do I farm Tal Rune and Eth Rune?
Stealth is Tal Rune + Eth Rune in a 2-socket body armor and needs clvl 17. It gives 20% FCR, 20% FHR, 10% faster run/walk, +6 Dexterity and 3 magic damage reduction, which makes it the standard leveling armor for nearly every class.
Save spare Tals: they also go into Ancients' Pledge, Spirit (Sword/Any Shield) and Insight. With Season 14's stash rework, runes stack in their own tab and upgrades need no key.
How does corruption with Worldstone Shards work?
Put an item and a Worldstone Shard in the cube and transmute. The result depends on the item:
  • Normal (white/grey) items without sockets: 50% they gain sockets (up to the base maximum), 50% they become a random rare.
  • Magic, rare, set or unique items that can have sockets (helm, chest, shield, weapon, quiver): 25% sockets (1-3 on armor, 2-4 on one-handed weapons, 3-6 on two-handed), 50% a corruption modifier, 25% "brick" into a random rare of the same type.
  • Items that cannot have sockets (gloves, boots, belt, ring, amulet): 75% a corruption modifier, 25% brick.
Modifiers come in low, mid and high rarity tiers. High-rarity rolls are things like +1 all skills or 20% FCR on chests, +1 all skills on weapons, helms and shields, or +15% FRW on boots. A corrupted item can never be corrupted again, but most other recipes still work on it, including Puzzleboxes for sockets afterwards. Runewords count as regular socketed items and can't be corrupted. Make the base corrupt first.
How do maps work, and what do I need to open one?
Maps are PD2's endgame zones. To open one you need a level 80+ character who has killed the Hell Ancients. Right-click the map in your inventory while in Harrogath in Hell. Only one map or uber zone can be opened per game. The tiers:
  • Tier 1: area level 87
  • Tier 2: area level 88
  • Tier 3: area level 89
  • Tier 4 (dungeons): area level 92, made from a T3 map with a Horadrim Scarab and meant for strong groups
Your first maps come from Anya's Hell reward, rare drops in Hell and Nightmare Act 5, and corrupted zones. After that, maps mostly drop inside maps, with a chance of higher-tier maps. Each map has affixes that add density, experience and magic/gold find, plus monster modifiers. Before opening a map, check its immunities against your build. Map events (11% on normal, 22% magic, 33% rare maps) add bonus content such as the Treasure Fallen, the Dark Wanderer (extra Worldstone Shards) or Shadow of Mendeln (Splinter of the Void).

10Season 14 changes

S13 -> S14 changes for Meteor (PD2 wiki Patch Notes and the hiimpd2 Season 14 page; calculations are approximate):
  • Meteor (buff): the burning ground now takes its synergy from Inferno instead of Fire Wall (a bug fix). The impact synergies (Fire Ball, Blaze, Inferno at 6% each) did not change. Example with Hiim's starter points (Fire Ball 20, Inferno 20, Blaze 1, Fire Wall 1): the ground synergy goes from (20+1+1) x 6% = 132% to (20+20+1) x 6% = 246%. That is 3.46 / 2.32, about +49% burning-ground damage before Fire Mastery. With CJS88's maxed Blaze it goes from 246% to 360%: 4.60 / 3.46, about +33%.
  • Blaze (buff): phasing (walk through monsters), speed changed to 25% + 1% per level (cap 60%), Cannot Be Frozen while active. Its burning ground's Fire Wall synergy went from 3% to 6%, and a wrong Warmth synergy was removed. Example: at skill level 20 the speed is 25 + 19 = 44%.
  • Inferno: fixed casting issues when switching between skills such as Teleport. No damage change.
  • Warmth: now gives flat attack rating (20 + 10 per level) instead of a percentage. Its mana regeneration is unchanged.
  • Sorceress: mana per level +2 -> +3, life per level +1 -> +1.25. At clvl 90 that is +89 mana and about +22 life over S13.
  • Static Field (1 point in Hiim's base planner): 25% -> 8% of current life, so that point is now worth very little.
  • Fire Ball / Fire Mastery / Meteor numbers: unchanged. A fireball double-hit bug was fixed; it mainly affected Hydra.
  • Items: 'Volcanic' (+3 Fire Skills) can now spawn on dropped rare staves and orbs. 'of the Magus' (20% FCR) can spawn on rare belts, gloves and amulets, and 'of the Archmage' (30% FCR) on rare chests and shields. New jewel prefix: +2-5% fire damage. Item curse procs (the Madness runeword, The Reaper's Toll) keep their old values.
  • Diablo Clone: the Trapped Soul pillars can no longer be targeted, and damage-over-time effects no longer persist through boss invulnerability.
  • Mercenaries now get full experience credit from your kills.
