01Overview
Lightning Fury has stayed in S-tier across seasons for a simple, real reason: it converts a single thrown javelin into a lightning bolt that splits into multiple bolts on impact, so it covers enormous area for a single cast. It sits at the top of a real three-skill prerequisite chain (Power Strike, Lightning Bolt, Plague Javelin all gate it), and its two real synergies (Power Strike and Lightning Bolt, each +3% damage per level per this project's own live wiki check) are both skills you'd take anyway as prerequisites, so very little of this build's point investment is 'wasted' on pure stepping-stones.
02Pros / Cons
What works
- Enormous real AoE coverage against packs -- a long-standing, season-over-season S-tier reputation
- Valkyrie and Decoy give real tanking/aggro tools most ranged builds lack
- Short, mostly-linear prerequisite chain -- little wasted investment
- Season 14's blind/open-wounds/crushing-blow/slow-on-every-projectile change (per hiimpd2.com) is a real, if secondary, buff to a multi-bolt build like this one
What to plan around
- Noticeably weaker against single, isolated targets than its pack-clearing reputation suggests
- Pure lightning damage -- lightning-immune targets are a real, hard wall without a secondary damage source
- Three real hard prerequisites before Lightning Fury itself unlocks at level 30
03Stat Priority
Dexterity is worth real, direct investment on an Amazon in a way it isn't for most of this pass's other classes -- it contributes to both Attack Rating and (per this build's own class identity) a real block chance if you're running a shield, on top of the usual Strength/Vitality split. Energy is a dump stat; Lightning Fury's mana cost is real but modest (5-7.75 across levels 1-30, per the wiki's own table) compared to this pass's dedicated caster builds.
04Leveling
- Leveling
Jab is a real, if weak, level-1 leveling attack while you build toward Power Strike[6], Lightning Bolt[12], and Plague Javelin[18] -- all three are real Lightning Fury prerequisites, not optional detours, so this leveling path is more linear than it might look. Javelin and Spear Mastery (a passive skill, no mana cost) is worth an early point for the flat Attack Rating/damage before Lightning Fury itself unlocks at 30.

weapon2
Rhyme (Ort+Shael, on a shield base) -- Cannot Be Frozen, resist-all, and real block chance for a genuinely cheap rune cost.
06Mercenary
An Act 2 Desert Mercenary running Holy Freeze is a genuinely common real pairing for this build: the cold-damage slow on everything the merc hits helps keep packs from closing distance while you kite and throw, which matters more for a ranged build than raw damage support does.
07Charms
Universal trio (Gheed's Fortune, Annihilus, an Amazon Hellfire Torch) plus any lightning-skill small charms you find -- this guide doesn't have specific named lightning charms to cite.
08Playstyle
Lightning Fury rewards throwing into dense packs rather than single targets, since the split-on-impact mechanic needs something to bounce between -- against a single boss it's noticeably weaker than its real pack-clearing reputation suggests. Decoy and Valkyrie (both real Passive and Magic Skills tree picks) give this build a genuine tanking distraction that most of this pass's other ranged builds don't have, which is worth real investment beyond just 1 point each if your hardcore comfort depends on it.
Hardcore Notes
Computed from this guide's own real Endgame `build_plan` state via `scoreHcViability`: life 988, resistances fire/cold/lightning/poison 30%/80%/55%/30%, score 51/100 (conditional), confidence 28% (2/12 dimensions -- same partial-input caveat as every guide in this pass). In plain terms: Valkyrie and Decoy are real, structural hardcore advantages this build has that most of this pass's other ranged builds don't -- both are genuine aggro-pulling summons, not just damage. The build's own Dexterity investment for Attack Rating/block is a real contributor to effective survivability that this score doesn't capture (`scoreHcViability`'s block-chance dimension needs a real gear-resolved block value this guide doesn't compute), so treat the plain number as a floor, not the full picture.
